The Final Adventure

17 Nov The Final Adventure

henkkoolenHere we are now. After a thirteen-year journey we have arrived at the end of our road. Yes, State-X New Forms-aficionados: this is the last edition of your beloved festival. When Paard van Troje and Haags Pop Centrum started out in 2003, a festival based on avantgarde- and experimental popmusic was virtually unheard of in The Netherlands. We paved the way for successful successors and it feels that more or less our job is done.

We have made our mark with bringing you over the years exciting acts like Aphex Twin, Circle, Killl, Snarky Puppy, Sonic Youth and New Kids On The Blokfluit. In fact the State-X New Forms-family consists of more than 600 acts of which only a handful played more than once.

At this point I would like to thank everybody involved during that lengthy period of time (sponsors, funds, volunteers, artists, co-producers, technicians, security-people, promoters, bar-staff, journalists and audience) for your great support. A big shout-out goes to Jan Borchers, Martijn Verlinden and Ingu Van Zuylen who helped shape the creative formula of the festival.

This final edition is one we (co-programmers Mike Bindraban, Gideon Rozendaal and myself) are mighty proud of and for your convenience the line-up has been thematically grouped in four sections that even more conveniently are divided over the two days. On Friday we focus on progressive jazz-sounds and on music inspired by influences from all over the world.

Saturday’s territory is that of ambient and minimalism with a classical touch and of the crossover between drones, noise and songs. There is a lot to discover this year and asking me for tips would simply mean repeating the complete line-up. Dive in and find out for yourself what we have to offer.

So, what happens after this year? Are we retiring? Of course not, the expertise and experience we have gathered over the years will come to use as we will join the fabulous Rewire festival as a program partner. First appointment in that new constellation: March 31st and April 1st and 2nd of 2017 all over The Hague.

And we might even surprise you with something new and exciting to fill in that blank space in the festival-diary in December 2017.

Well, candyboys and sugartits , it has been a blast. We’ll meet again one sunny day.
Henk Koolen,
Head of Program
