The State-X New Forms crew is looking back on another succesful ninth edition of the festival. But of course this couldn’t take place without YOU! The crew would like to thank everyone involved in making the State-X New Forms festival happen. The artists, mediapartners, volunteers, employees of Paard van Troje and Haags Pop Centrum, funders and of course you, the audience!

The State-X New Forms crew will soon be brainstorming on a special tenth edition of the festival in 2013! More information and of course the dates for the festival will follow shortly. Meanwhile we’d like to thank everyone again for their efforts and making this another succesful edition. Stay tuned!

State-X New Forms 2012 – Day One impression

The first day of the State-X New Forms 2012 festival was a succes! From the legendary post-punk of Mission of Burma to the intimate and interactive performance of human beatbox machine David-X. And from the drones of Stargazer in the Paard van Troje café to the flash exhibit from CLOUD in the main room between Mission of Burma and Otto von Schirach. Not forgetting a smashing night program with the likes of Otto Von Schirach, Bambounou and Hostage!

Breach (Ben Westbeech) replaces Kwes. at State-X New Forms 2012

Unfortunately the news reached us Kwes. is not going to make it to the State-X New Forms festival this weekend. Here’s his official statement:

“I’m really sorry to be cancelling this show but due to a very tight recording deadline I won’t be able to come and play this year. I’m really looking forward to coming and playing my new album in the Netherlands in the new year.”

But we have found a suitable replacement: Breach (Ben Westbeech)!

Maybe the name Ben Westbeech rings a bell? The soul/jazz singer and producer released two albums on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label and appeared on Kraak & Smaak’s hit single Squeeze Me, which even reached the Dutch charts. But he recently found his love behind the turntables under the moniker of Breach. Rooted in his love for soul and jazz he plays dancefloor killing house and uk bass grooves.

Along with Fantastic Mr Fox playing right after him, the Saturday night of State-X New Forms is going to be killer!

State-X New Forms line-up complete!

With these last additions for State-X New Forms 2012, the line-up is complete! Mission of Burma, Boris, NoMeansNo and many others were already confirmed, but we have a few more surprises!

New additions and timeschedule
The last addition to the State-X New Future program is Rooie Waas. State-X New Future is a returning concept in the café of Paard van Troje, where local, promising artists take the stage. Also Ventriloquism has been added to the line-up. With these two additions the music line-up is complete and we can reveal the timeschedule to you. Workshops Guerilla Training and NovaDrone
Before his show on Friday December 14th, David-X will be giving a guerilla training (workshop) “human beatboxing”, presented by Guus van der Steen (Ahab) from Kernkoppen. Head over to the workshop page to sign up. It’s free!
Under the guidance of Peter Edwards and Rob Hordijk, participants in the NovaDrone workshop can build a complete functioning synthesizer on Saturday December 15th. Besides building the synthesizer, the participants can also try out their brand new device during an improvisation show in the foyer later this evening. More information, the costs for the workshop and the registration form are up on the NovaDrone page!

Visual program
This year the festival will be opened by a performance from Nina Boas. The attendees will be asked to join her for a small workshop from 19:30 onwards, leading up to the performance at 20:30. Between the shows of Mission of Burma and Otto on Schirach, the CLOUD network will host a special “Flash Exhibit”.
The balcony will host a special exhibition, with diverse works from national and international artists. This includes the short film ‘Beyonda’ by the Bissy Bunder collective. The short film will be screened every half an hour.
The visual program runs from the balcony all the way to the basement of the café, where the anonymous collective Անանուն present their installation “Rat Kafe”. This is not just open for the public, but can only be viewed upon invite. Developments around this collective can be followed through a special blog which will be launched around December 1st.
State-X TV returns! This time the video’s will be curated by Ana Lemnaru along with Anduo Lucia filming live newsreports during the festival.

Elektruck
This year the festival will not only take place in Paard van troje, but right in front of the building a huge citybus will be placed. The Elektruck is a digital workplace for music producers of all levels; a meeting spot for new talent! All necessary gear will be present in the bus, the State-X New Future artists will deliver the samples and the participants can start working on their own music. The Elektruck crew will support the participants and some State-X New Forms artists might even join you!

The ticket sales for State-X New Forms 2012 have started. Passe partouts (25 euro’s) and friday + saturday tickets (17,50) can be bought through the website of Paard van Troje. All prices exclude service costs.

State-X New Forms takes place this year from 14 to 15 December and we can’t run a festival without our team of volunteers! Do you want to volunteer during the festival? We need you!

What we ask from you? We’re looking for motivated volunteers for a maximum of 6 hours during the festival. What we offer? You’ll be offered a free passe partout for the festival. It usually comes down to one day of work and one day to enjoy the festival! Do you feel like joining us in the next few months? Please fill in the application form and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

New additions to the State-X New Forms 2012 music- and artprogram

NoMeansNo returns to State-X New Forms! The experimental punk rock band played the very first edition of State-X New Forms in 2004. Besides that the London based dream pop band Whistlejacket have been added to the line-up and new electronics at the festival come with the additions of Hostage, Bambounou and Kwes. The café and foyer of Paard van Troje will host Joe Volk (ex-singer of Crippled Black Phoenix), David-X and Alek et Les Japonaises. This year State-X New Forms will also host the stage for upcoming local artists. Under the name of “State-X New Future”, Knotwilg, Droppings, Stargazer, Maxci and A.T.S. will play State-X New Forms 2012.

Building from the 2011 edition, this year’s visual program includes a diverse range of established and emerging artists. An exhibition inside the Paard van Troje highlights the works of four artists: Katinka van Gorkum, Bissy Bunder, Bas de Boer and Pieterjan Ginkels. The exhibition is accompanied by a of performance artists, including Nina Boas, Michèle Matyn and SOEPHOER. These artists will present their artworks in the festival context, creating a mix of sound and vision, strange humor and a raw aesthetic that will challenge and entice the festival public.

With these announcements, the line-up for State-X New Forms is almost complete, but expect a few more additions in the upcoming weeks.

The early bird tickets for State-X New Forms are completely sold out and regular ticket sales have started. Passe partouts and daytickets for friday as well as saturday can be bought from the website of Paard van Troje (see “ticket” section).

Thanks everyone, the run of early bird tickets is completely sold out! Regular pre-sale for passe partouts (25 euro’s) and daytickets for friday/saturday (17,50) have just been launched at the Paard van Troje website.
